2018 Season Recap

GAME 1 WESTON JETS at TAUNTON MUSKETS 29/04/2018

The Weston Jets played their first ever competitive game away to the Taunton Muskets. American John Arnold scored the first competitive run in the Club’s history, batted in by Nick Hodder. The experienced Muskets gave the Jets a baptism of fire getting 36 hits in a 45-4 win against the Jets. MVP: John Arnold

GAME 2 NEWTON BREWERS at WESTON JETS 13/05/2018

The Newton Brewers visited Robson Field for the Jets first ever home game. This game was a lot closer than the Taunton game. Rich Birch, Dan Kirby-James, Kev Robson and John Arnold scored 2 runs apiece in an eventual 26-14 defeat that gave the Club renewed hope for the season ahead. MVP: Dan Kirby-James

GAME 3 WESTON JETS at CORNISH CLAYCUTTERS 20/05/2018

Game 3 was another close affair for the Jets but one that would end in another defeat for the new Jets team by the final score of 18 runs to 11. Chris Taylor and Dan Kirby-James both had multi-hit games in an early demonstration of their personal competition to be the Team MVP. Player of the game however was pitcher Mantas Sulinaskis who struck out 19 Claycutters while pitching a complete game and also had a 3 hit day with the bat. MVP: Mantas Sulinskas

GAME 4 PLYMOUTH MARINERS at WESTON JETS 03/06/2018

Game 4 was another harsh learning lesson for the new team when the experienced Plymouth Mariners visited Robson Field. Highlights were few and far between for the Jets; Dan Kirby-James and Kev Robson both got 2 hits and Chris Taylor scored 2 runs but the final score was a heavy defeat by 42 runs to 5. MVP: Kev Robson

GAME 5 WESTON JETS at EXETER SPITFIRES 09/06/2018

Another game, another loss, this time to the Exeter Spitfires (who would eventually go on to be the 2018 League Champions) by 31 runs to 11. Rich Birch and Darrell Capille were the standout players for Weston, both hitting safely 3 times and driving in 3 runs. Birch also scored 3 times himself. MVP: Rich Birch

GAME 6 BRISTOL BATS at WESTON JETS 18/06/2018

Bristol bats inflicted the Jets next morale sapping defeat in a 35-9 home defeat. Mantas Sulinskas pitched another complete game but the highlight of the day was the batting of Chris Taylor. Chris hit the first home runs in the Club’s history. After he hit a long bomb over centre field in his first at-bat, Chris repeated the feat in the 4th inning also, hitting another homer to the exact same spot. MVP: Chris Taylor

GAME 7 TAUNTON MUSKETS at WESTON JETS 08/07/2018

The Muskets defeated the Jets heavily for the second time in the season, this time beating the Jets by 49 runs to 8. Taunton’s pitching was simply too good for Weston, they struck out 11 as they held the Jet’s scoreless over the first 6 innings. The Jets finally came alive in the 7th, scoring 8 runs (from 7 different players) but the result was still another defeat for the Jets. MVP: Dan Kirby-James

GAME 8 WESTON JETS at NEWTON BREWERS 22/07/2018

JETS WIN! JETS WIN! JETS WIN! In their 8th time of asking, the Jets finally break their duck defeating the Newton Brewers 33-20 at Stover School. Mantas Sulinaskis was the winning pitcher, allowing just 9 runs before Nick Hodder came in to hold off a Brewers comeback for the save. Roger Saddington and Chris Taylor both got 4 hits (Taylor getting 6 Rbi’s on the day) while Nick Hodder scored 6 runs in an historic day for the Club. MVP: Chris Taylor

GAME 9 WESTON JETS at PLYMOUTH MARINERS 05/08/2018

Gameday 7 ended in another defeat, as the Jets came back down to earth in a very tetchy affair down on the south coast. The Jets went scoreless through the first 6 innings while the home side racked up 42 unanswered runs. Weston faced an embarrassing whitewash when unlikely hero Roger Saddington, the Jet’s last batter hit safely and the Jets scored 2 runs gaining something to cheer about on another miserable day. MVP: Chris Taylor

GAME 10 EXETER SPITFIRES at WESTON JETS 13/08/2018

The Spitfires shot down the Jets in Game 8 in another disappointing outing for the Jets. The team only had 9 hits between them and the Spitfires ran out winners by 29 runs to 4. Darrell Capille was the player of the day for Weston going 3 for 4 and hitting the Jet’s only triple of the season. MVP: Darrell Capille

GAME 11 WESTON JETS at BRISTOL BATS 19/08/2018

The Bats absolutely thrashed the Jets on the darkest day in the history of the Club scoring 81 runs against Weston in a humiliating 81-12 victory. Taemo Park and Nerius Tamosiunas both got double digit hits for the Bats as they trounced a Jets team. Dan Kirby-James and Chris Taylor again both performed well with the bat, but it was a day and a result everyone connected with the Club wished to forget. MVP: Dan Kirby-James

GAME 12 CORNISH CLAYCUTTERS at WESTON JETS 26/08/2018

The 2018 debut season unfortunately ended on a damp squib as the Claycutters were unable to muster a team to send to play a rearranged fixture that had been rained off earlier in the season. The Jets were awarded a 7-0 victory by default. MVP: None
