The MLB came to London last weekend to play the first ever regular season games in Europe.
The weather was glorious, The London Stadium (the home of West Ham United and former site of the 2012 Olympics) was transformed into a fitting venue for baseball and the record number of fans who attended (both games were sell-outs and the best attended MLB games this season!). MLB sent over the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox (their two biggest teams) and the lucky fans (including 6 of our own Jets!) were treated to two absolutely amazing games!
The Yankees emerged victorious winning both games in an absolute slugfest… 3 of the 4 starting pitchers were knocked out in the first innings as the two bitter rivals combined for 50 runs and 65 hits combined over the weekend! Those boxscores wouldnt look out of place in a Jets game in the SWBL!!!!!
The winner, as the old saying goes though, was baseball. Hopefully a lot of new converts were won over and interest and participation in our great sport will grow as a result. The only shame is we have to wait until next summer for the next games when the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs cross the pond!
